Maintenance Director – Facility Operations

About the role

The Maintenance Director is responsible for planning, organizing, developing and directing all maintenance activities to ensure the facility is safe, compliant and comfortable for occupants. Reporting to the Administrator, the role oversees policy creation, schedule adherence and coordination with other departments such as Dietary, Nursing and Activities.

Key responsibilities

• Develop, maintain and enforce written maintenance policies, procedures and schedules.
• Lead the Maintenance Department, providing administrative authority, accountability and supervision of staff.
• Coordinate maintenance services with related departments to minimize interruptions.
• Inspect storage, workrooms, utility and janitorial areas for upkeep and supply control.
• Participate in government facility surveys, prepare corrective action plans and ensure compliance with federal, state and local regulations.
• Supervise outside vendors, verify contract compliance and oversee work order completion.
• Conduct daily rounds, monitor staff performance, and ensure safety and fire protection programs are followed.
• Maintain Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) and ensure proper handling of potential exposure to blood or body fluids.
• Report equipment or facility damage promptly to senior management.

Required profile

• Proven experience leading maintenance teams in a healthcare or similar facility environment.
• Strong knowledge of federal, state and local maintenance regulations.
• Ability to develop and implement policies, procedures and corrective action plans.
• Excellent organizational, communication and problem‑solving skills.
• Experience supervising safety, fire protection and infection‑control related activities.
