Mail Clerk

About the role

The Mail Clerk provides courteous front‑line service and ensures reliable handling of all incoming and outgoing mail and packages for Georgetown University. Working in a busy campus environment, the clerk operates mail‑service vehicles, maintains accurate tracking, and supports daily mailroom operations.

Key responsibilities

• Greet students, faculty, and visitors in a courteous manner.
• Operate mail‑service vehicles, including a large box truck, to pick up mail from USPS and other carriers.
• Receive, scan, sort, and deliver incoming mail and packages while maintaining chain of custody.
• Utilize package‑tracking software and locker systems to manage deliveries to departments and student locker banks.
• Deliver mail and parcels according to assigned routes and instructions.
• Maintain cleanliness of mail‑service vehicles and perform additional mail‑related duties as needed.

Required profile

• High‑school diploma or GED.
• At least one year of experience in a medium to large mailroom, preferably in a university setting.
• Valid driver’s license and ability to lift up to 70 lb.
• Willingness to work overtime when required.
• Strong attention to detail and accuracy in verbal, written, and electronic communication.

Required skills

• Proficiency with Microsoft Word.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Excel.
• Experience using package‑tracking software and locker system technology.
