Magazines Project Manager

About the role

VIZ, a leading U.S. publisher of manga and related magazines, is looking for a Magazines Project Manager to shape the strategy, marketing and licensing of its magazine portfolio. The role works closely with the VP of Magazines to ensure publications align with company goals and engage a large, dedicated readership.

Key responsibilities

• Direct overall product strategy, market research, development requirements and production coordination for assigned magazines.
• Develop and execute marketing plans, positioning and promotional campaigns to maximize exposure.
• Collaborate with sales, editorial, design, operations and other functional areas to deliver marketing initiatives.
• Manage day‑to‑day progress of product marketing plan execution and oversee financial modeling and ROI.
• Conduct market analysis and recommend new title acquisitions.
• Serve as primary liaison with Japanese licensors, handling licensing approvals and asset acquisition.
• Coordinate cross‑promotional activities with U.S. licensees and assist with translation of business communications.

Required profile

• Fluent in speaking, reading and writing Japanese.
• Familiarity with Japanese business practices and structures.
• Knowledge of anime, manga, related magazines and merchandise.
• Working knowledge of the U.S. publishing industry and distribution channels.
• Strong understanding of consumer and trade market dynamics.
