Machinist V – Swing Shift (T5)

About the role

We are seeking a skilled Machinist V for swing shift at our Tempe Spares Manufacturing facility. The role involves operating complex machinery to produce prototype and production parts from non‑metal materials such as graphite and silicon carbide.

Key responsibilities

• Safely operate all shop machines, performing complex operations to produce, modify, and repair parts and assemblies.
• Interpret work orders, blueprints, sketches, and verbal instructions to determine machining processes, tooling, and fixture requirements.
• Set up and run 5‑axis CNC mills, Fanuc‑controlled equipment, and standard shop tools (grinders, drill presses, band saws, etc.).
• Perform machining operations including milling, turning, facing, boring, threading, drilling, reaming, and chamfering.
• Monitor machine performance, conduct visual and dimensional inspections, and execute rework as needed.

Required profile

• Trade school certificate in machining plus 5+ years experience, OR Journeyman machinist union membership, OR 10+ years verifiable field experience.
• Experience working exclusively with graphite and silicon carbide (no metals).
• Strong knowledge of trigonometry for accurate angle calculations in set‑ups.
• Ability to work physically demanding tasks, standing for long periods, lifting, and handling noisy environments.

Required skills

• 5‑axis CNC milling operation.
• Fanuc machine controls.
• G‑code and M‑code programming.
• Use of calipers, micrometers, gauges, and indicators.
• Inspection tools and techniques.
• Machining processes: milling, turning, facing, boring, threading, drilling, reaming, chamfering.
