Machine Operator III

About the role

Applied Materials is seeking an experienced Machine Operator III to join its manufacturing team in Tempe, AZ. The role supports in‑house customers by producing prototype and production parts, performing modifications and repairs, and ensuring high‑quality output in a fast‑paced environment.

Key responsibilities

• Operate major shop tools such as CNC routers, lasers, water jets, sheet‑metal brakes, Teflon presses, manual mills and lathes, forklifts and cranes.
• Interpret work orders, blueprints, sketches and verbal instructions to determine machining processes, tooling and fixture requirements.
• Set up and run complex machining operations, calculate angles using trigonometry, and optimize material nesting to reduce waste.
• Maintain a clean, safe work area and comply with departmental safety standards.

Required profile

• High School Diploma or GED with 7‑10 years of machine shop experience.
• Demonstrated ability to work autonomously, lead peers, and provide guidance to junior team members.
• Physically able to stand for long periods, lift heavy items and operate noisy equipment.

Required skills

• Proficiency with CNC routers, laser cutters, water‑jet machines, sheet‑metal brakes, Teflon presses, manual mills, manual lathes.
• Forklift and crane operation.
• Blueprint reading and work‑order interpretation.
• Applied trigonometry for machine set‑ups.
