Lower School Learning Specialist

About the role

The Lower School Learning Specialist joins a collaborative team at Sinai Akiba Academy to deliver push‑in and pull‑out literacy and math support for students facing academic challenges. Reporting to the Director of Student Services, this full‑time, exempt role focuses on data‑driven instruction and close coordination with classroom teachers.

Key responsibilities

• Provide a blend of push‑in and pull‑out literacy and math interventions based on student data.
• Assist the assessment team with universal assessments for K‑5 students and analyze results.
• Conduct diagnostic assessments (DRA, Fountas & Pinnell, phonics, phonological awareness, spelling inventories) for students in the Learning Support Program.
• Interpret assessment data to guide instructional planning and support teachers in implementing modifications.
• Communicate regularly with classroom teachers about student progress and coordinate accommodations.
• Collaborate with the Director of Student Services on curriculum development, faculty coaching, and assessment‑informed planning.
• Maintain a solid understanding of child development and apply it to instructional decisions.
• Engage families with progress updates and home‑learning strategies, and participate in Student Success Meetings.
• Coordinate with external providers such as speech‑language therapists and tutors.

Required profile

• Experience working with elementary‑age students in a learning‑support or special‑education setting.
• Strong ability to analyze assessment data and translate findings into instructional actions.
• Excellent collaboration and communication skills for working with teachers, administrators, and families.
• Knowledge of child development principles and evidence‑based literacy and math interventions.

Required skills

• Proficiency with diagnostic assessment tools (e.g., DRA, Fountas & Pinnell, phonics and phonological awareness assessments).
