Locksmith – Full-time Position

About the role

The Physical Plant Department at the University of Maryland Eastern Shore is seeking a full‑time, non‑exempt Locksmith to support campus security and facility operations. Working under general supervision, you will install, repair, and maintain a variety of locking systems across the university.

Key responsibilities

• Install, repair, rebuild, and open mechanical and electronic locks, door closures, and related devices.
• Cut new or duplicate keys using key‑cutting machines according to specifications.
• Disassemble locks, replace worn tumblers, springs, and other components, and re‑assemble to change combinations.
• Maintain accurate manual and automated records of keys, codes, and lock locations.
• Prepare departmental reports as needed and perform other related duties.

Required profile

• Four years of progressively responsible experience in the locksmith trade.
• Valid non‑commercial Class C driver’s license in Maryland.
• Availability for emergency calls on an as‑needed basis.

Required skills

• Proficiency with mechanical and electronic lock installation and repair.
• Experience operating key‑cutting machines and pinning lock tumblers.
• Knowledge of OSHA regulations relevant to locksmith work.
• Ability to perform basic mathematics for measurements and calculations.
• Skilled in using and maintaining locksmith tools and equipment.
