Linux System Administrator (Software Engineer II)

About the role

Entarian is looking for an experienced Linux System Administrator (Software Engineer II) to support NOAA’s IT infrastructure. The position is based on‑site in College Park, MD and focuses on Red Hat Enterprise operations, automation, and security across a large government environment.

Key responsibilities

• Provide Red Hat Linux Enterprise operations and maintenance (O&M) support.
• Develop, troubleshoot, and execute Ansible playbooks for enterprise automation.
• Manage and maintain Linux server and workstation infrastructure, ensuring performance, reliability, and security.
• Perform routine system updates, patch management, and system optimization.
• Monitor system health using tools such as CheckMK and Big Brother and remediate issues promptly.
• Write and maintain scripts in Bash, PowerShell, and Python for operational tasks.
• Leverage GitLab and Red Hat Satellite 6 for configuration management and system provisioning.
• Install and upgrade COTS/GOTS applications, and support network storage solutions (NetApp).
• Conduct vulnerability assessments with Tenable Nessus and Qualys, and enforce security best practices.
• Manage user accounts and permissions via AIX, Akamai, IDM, Grafana, and local mechanisms.

Required profile

• Minimum 3 + years of professional experience with Red Hat Linux administration.
• Ability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust clearance; U.S. citizenship required.
• Hands‑on experience with Ansible automation, monitoring tools, and scripting languages.
• Familiarity with enterprise provisioning tools such as Foreman and Red Hat Satellite.
