Linux System Administrator 2 – Mission Critical IT Support

About the role

Columbia Technology Partners is looking for a Linux System Administrator 2 to ensure the reliability, performance and security of mission‑critical Linux environments supporting both enterprise and secure enclave operations. The role involves hands‑on system administration, troubleshooting and collaboration with engineering, cybersecurity and operations teams.

Key responsibilities

• Implement, maintain and troubleshoot Linux‑based servers (RHEL, CentOS, Ubuntu) across multiple environments.
• Perform daily operations including patching, configuration management, updates and user account administration.
• Monitor system performance, respond to alerts, outages and Tier 1/Tier 2 incidents.
• Apply security patches, maintain logs, enforce access controls and support vulnerability remediation and system hardening.
• Configure and optimise storage, networking and core services.
• Document configurations, procedures and troubleshooting steps.
• Assist with system upgrades, deployments and integration activities.

Required profile

• 10 + years of Linux systems administration experience.
• Bachelor’s degree in a technical field or equivalent experience.
• U.S. citizenship and ability to obtain an active security clearance with polygraph.
• DoD 8570/8140 compliance (Security+ CE required).

Required skills

• Strong experience with RHEL, CentOS and Ubuntu.
• Proficiency in Bash scripting.
• Knowledge of configuration‑management tools such as Ansible.
• System monitoring, performance tuning and troubleshooting.
• Patch management, vulnerability remediation and system hardening.
• Administration of user accounts, permissions and access controls.
• Understanding of networking and storage services in Linux environments.
