Lieutenant – Corrections Supervisor

About the role

The Lieutenant provides senior supervision of Corrections Officers within a detention facility, ensuring compliance with policies, laws, and security standards. This position leads daily operations, training, and crisis response while maintaining a safe environment for staff and inmates.

Key responsibilities

• Supervise and direct Corrections Officers, ensuring adherence to facility policies and applicable laws.
• Review and approve inmate reports, disciplinary actions, transfers, releases, and bail paperwork.
• Conduct briefings, training sessions, and performance evaluations for staff.
• Manage emergency situations, crisis interventions, and use‑of‑force documentation.
• Oversee inmate counts, movements, searches, and visitor monitoring to prevent contraband.
• Maintain petty‑cash records, prepare related reports, and update the facility’s computer database.
• Investigate staff‑inmate incidents, recommend corrective actions, and participate in disciplinary hearings.
• Provide non‑professional counseling to inmates and address complaints before escalation.

Required profile

• Proven experience supervising corrections or security personnel.
• Strong knowledge of correctional policies, legal requirements, and emergency procedures.
• Ability to make decisive decisions under pressure and communicate clearly with staff and external agencies.
• Excellent observational skills to detect changes in inmate behavior and security risks.
