Legal Counsel – Anti-Discrimination

About the role

The World Bank Group is seeking a qualified Legal Counsel to join its Ethics & Internal Justice Services Vice Presidency. The position is based in Washington, DC and focuses on the anti‑discrimination program within the Anti‑Harassment and Anti‑Discrimination Unit.

Key responsibilities

• Review allegations of discrimination, with an emphasis on racial discrimination, involving World Bank staff.
• Assess related information and data and recommend appropriate handling—whether by the unit, the Investigation unit, or other EIJ resources.
• Provide confidential guidance and advice to staff who have experienced or witnessed discrimination.
• Advise managers on strategies to address, manage, and prevent discrimination.
• Prepare legal opinions, case‑related correspondence, talking points, referrals for investigation, and other sensitive documents.

Required profile

• Law degree with relevant professional qualification.
• Demonstrated experience in handling discrimination or employment‑law matters.
• Strong analytical abilities and sound judgment in assessing complex cases.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.

Required skills

• Legal research and analysis.
• Drafting of legal opinions and confidential correspondence.
• Knowledge of anti‑discrimination legislation and policies.
