About the role

The Bronx District Attorney’s Office is looking for a qualified Legal Case Writer to join the Early Case Assessment Bureau. In this role you will interview police officers, victims, and witnesses, and prepare the documentation needed to determine whether a criminal prosecution should proceed.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct interviews with law‑enforcement personnel and civilian witnesses to gather case facts.
• Draft accurate, legally sufficient affidavits and related legal documents based on verbal accounts.
• Obtain, review, and coordinate collection of records and documentation from NYPD and other agencies.
• Collect and prepare video and digital evidence, including body‑worn camera footage, for discovery production.
• Review and edit Desk Appearance Tickets for accuracy and compliance.
• Maintain precise case records and meet all documentation deadlines.
• Collaborate with Assistant District Attorneys, court staff, and external agencies to support case preparation.
• Ensure adherence to office policies, legal standards, and discovery obligations.

Required profile

• LL.M. or Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree.
• Familiarity with general court procedures and operations.
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Ability to manage a high‑volume caseload in a fast‑paced environment.
• Excellent written communication for drafting concise case synopses and affidavits.
• Experience interacting professionally with witnesses and law‑enforcement personnel.
