About the role

The Office of the District Attorney, Bronx County (BXDA) seeks an experienced Legal Case Writer to support its mission of public safety and equal justice. The role involves preparing legal documents, interviewing witnesses, and managing case‑related evidence for criminal prosecutions.

Key responsibilities

• Interview law‑enforcement and civilian witnesses, addressing inquiries about case status, procedural matters, and charges.
• Analyze factual scenarios and draft legal affidavits without taking notes.
• Obtain necessary documents from NYPD and other agencies to aid case assessment and discovery.
• Collect and prepare video or digital recordings, such as body‑cam footage, for discovery.
• Review and edit Desk Appearance Tickets prepared by DAT writers.
• Assist with additional unit tasks and perform other duties as assigned.

Required profile

• Juris Doctor (JD) degree.
• At least one year of experience interviewing witnesses and handling community‑oriented legal work.
• Strong organizational abilities and attention to detail in a fast‑paced environment.
• Professional communication skills with supervisors, law‑enforcement, civilians, District Attorney staff, and court personnel.

Required skills

• Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite.
• Experience using OneDrive for document management.
• Ability to work with Adobe Acrobat Pro for PDF handling.
• High typing speed and overall computer literacy.
