About the role
The U.S. Attorney's Office is seeking a Legal Assistant specialized in office automation to support Assistant United States Attorneys. This role provides essential legal and administrative assistance across multiple district offices throughout the United States and its territories.
Key responsibilities
- Examine, prepare, and process technical legal documents such as complaints, motions, orders, pleadings, subpoenas, and libels.
- Proofread and perform cite‑checking on legal briefs, memoranda, and other documents.
- Assist attorneys with trial preparation, including non‑complex research of statutes, regulations, and case law.
- Assemble exhibits, affidavits, and related legal materials.
- Organize and maintain case files and records for disposition or transfer to the records depository.
- Maintain calendars for active cases, tracking filing, hearing, and trial dates, and schedule conferences and interviews.
- Arrange travel logistics, preparing itineraries and securing transportation and hotel reservations.
- Produce written documents and materials using a wide range of office software applications.
Required profile
- U.S. citizen or national.
- Male applicants born after 12/31/1959 must be registered with the Selective Service or be exempt.
- Ability to handle increasing responsibilities as training and experience progress.
Required skills
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and other office automation software.
- Strong attention to detail for document preparation and citation checking.
