Lead Mechanical Engineer

About the role

Mesh Optical Technologies is building a hardware platform that requires micron‑scale precision and high‑volume automated manufacturing. We are looking for a Lead Mechanical Engineer to own the mechanical development of this platform, designing critical assemblies and building the team that delivers them.

Key responsibilities

• Lead mechanical execution from concept through production ramp, personally designing high‑impact components and assemblies.
• Translate product architecture into mechanical system strategy, defining packaging and tolerance approaches across optical, electrical, and mechanical interfaces.
• Architect electro‑mechanical assemblies for automated, scalable manufacturing, ensuring designs support autonomous assembly and robust DFM.
• Conduct structural, thermal, and reliability analysis, identify risks early, and define validation strategies.
• Drive design‑for‑manufacturability, design‑for‑assembly, and design‑for‑test, managing supplier readiness from prototype to production.
• Provide day‑to‑day technical leadership to a growing team of mechanical engineers, lead design reviews, and establish design standards.

Required profile

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in mechanical engineering or a related discipline.
• 4+ years of experience designing complex hardware systems with ownership of major subsystems through production ramp.
• Strong foundation in mechanics of materials, heat transfer, and tolerance analysis.
• Experience with tight‑tolerance precision assemblies that integrate optical, electrical, thermal, or mechanical domains.

Required skills

• Professional 3D CAD tools (NX, SolidWorks, Creo, or equivalent).
• Structural analysis tools (e.g., ANSYS, Abaqus or similar).
• Mechanical design, tolerance analysis, and DFM expertise.
