Lead Lab Engineer

About the role

Trane Technologies is seeking a Lead Lab Engineer to provide technical support and supervision for its R&D Engineering Lab focused on residential HVAC testing. The role will design, develop, and sustain state-of-the-art test facilities while mentoring cross-functional teams.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the design, development, improvement, and maintenance of Engineering Lab test facilities and capabilities.
• Create detailed design documents and functional requirement specifications in line with company standards.
• Train and mentor Lab Engineering, Lab Operations, and Product Development team members.
• Manage third-party contractor work and prioritize enhancement and support requests.
• Troubleshoot hardware and software issues affecting test equipment.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering (master’s preferred).
• Minimum 12 years of experience in product design, industrial automation, component design, or HVAC-related work.
• Lean Sigma Black Belt or Green Belt preferred.
• Strong self‑initiative and ability to work with minimal supervision.

Required skills

• HVAC fundamentals, including psychrometrics, refrigeration, airflow, electric heat, combustion and NVH.
• Knowledge of laboratory testing standards and methodologies (ARI, UL, ANSI, ISO 17025).
• Basic electronics and electrical circuit troubleshooting.
• Project management and improvement‑project leadership.
• Industrial automation and component design.
