Lead Counsel – Claims, Litigation and Compliance

About the role

This senior position serves as a strategic legal advisor responsible for overseeing complex claims, litigation, compliance, and risk‑management initiatives across the organization. The Lead Counsel works closely with business leaders, internal legal teams, and external partners to provide practical guidance and protect the company’s interests.

Key responsibilities

• Oversee and manage legal claims, disputes, mediation, arbitration, and litigation matters.
• Partner with internal stakeholders and external counsel to efficiently resolve legal issues.
• Provide leadership with clear analysis, updates, and recommendations on claims, litigation, compliance obligations, and emerging legal risks.
• Collaborate with operational teams to identify, assess, and mitigate legal and business risks.
• Support insurance‑related activities, including renewals, claims coordination, and policy matters.
• Develop and deliver training on legal, regulatory, compliance, and risk‑related topics.
• Monitor legislative and regulatory changes and recommend appropriate actions.
• Contribute to corporate governance, compliance initiatives, and broader risk‑management programs.

Required profile

• Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school.
• Active membership in good standing with a state bar.
• 10‑12+ years of relevant legal experience in claims management, dispute resolution, litigation, compliance, risk management, insurance matters, or commercial litigation.

Required skills

• Ability to analyze complex legal issues and provide practical, business‑focused recommendations.
• Experience partnering with internal stakeholders and external counsel to resolve legal matters.
• Strong communication skills to translate complex legal concepts into clear, actionable guidance.
