Lead Cook, In‑School (No Nights/Holidays)

About the role

Join Red Rabbit’s fast‑paced, high‑volume school kitchen in Washington, D.C. as the Lead Cook. You will oversee a small team preparing over 1,000 fresh, made‑from‑scratch lunches each day, ensuring every meal meets the company’s quality and nutrition standards.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain consistency, quality, and presentation for every batch of meals.
• Follow daily menus and production sheets to portion, weigh, and prepare food according to Red Rabbit recipes and D.C. guidelines.
• Cook, cool, plate, and pack meals efficiently while coordinating with the Kitchen Manager.
• Keep workstations and equipment clean, organized, and compliant with Department of Health standards.
• Assist in inventory management and ensure safe food handling practices.

Required profile

• Minimum 3 years of professional culinary experience in a high‑volume kitchen, commissary, or cafeteria.
• Demonstrated ability to produce 500 + meals quickly and consistently.
• Strong knowledge of food safety and sanitation; ServSafe certification required within 90 days (reimbursement provided).
• Team‑oriented, organized, self‑motivated with a positive attitude.
• Ability to lift up to 50 lb regularly.
• Bilingual English/Spanish is a plus.
