Lawyer – Judge Advocate General

About the role

The United States Marine Corps is seeking a full‑time Lawyer – Judge Advocate General (JAG) to be based at Quantico, VA. In this position you will provide legal counsel to commanders, Marines, and authorized personnel across a wide range of military and federal legal matters.

Key responsibilities

• Research and interpret statutes, regulations, and case law to advise on operational, administrative, and personnel issues.
• Draft legal opinions, prepare and review legal documents, and ensure compliance with applicable laws and policies.
• Represent the Marine Corps in judicial and administrative proceedings, including courts‑martial and hearings.
• Support investigations, advise on labor and employment matters, data‑privacy concerns, and corporate governance compliance.
• Collaborate with other legal and military professionals to maintain mission readiness and protect rights.

Required profile

• Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school and admission to a state or federal bar.
• Demonstrated ability to analyze complex legal issues and provide clear, practical advice.
• Experience or coursework in labor and employment law, data‑privacy, and governance frameworks.
• Strong legal research, writing, and oral advocacy skills with attention to detail.
• Ability to work within a hierarchical organization, maintain confidentiality, and meet security, fitness, and background requirements for a commissioned Marine Corps officer.
