Lateral Police Officer

About the role

The City of Sandy is seeking qualified candidates for a Lateral Police Officer position. Under the supervision of a Police Sergeant, you will provide routine and emergency police services to protect the community.

Key responsibilities

• Enforce criminal laws, county and city ordinances, and traffic regulations.
• Respond to emergency calls, conduct investigations, and make arrests when warranted.
• Patrol assigned areas, conduct traffic stops, and issue citations.
• Prepare accurate incident reports and maintain proper documentation.
• Operate emergency vehicles safely and participate in department training.

Required profile

• Utah LEO POST certification and a valid Utah driver’s license.
• U.S. citizenship or lawful permanent residency with at least five years legal presence.
• Minimum age of 21 at time of appointment.
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Clean criminal record as defined by Utah statutes (no recent dishonesty, violent, sexual, or drug offenses).
• Pass a one‑year probationary period and yearly qualifications in firearms, emergency vehicle operation, physical ability, and arrest control.
• Demonstrated good moral character and sound judgment.
• Ability to type at least 30 words per minute.

Required skills

• Typing proficiency (minimum 30 wpm).
