Large Weights Inspector – Weights & Measures

About the role

The Georgia Department of Agriculture is seeking a Large Weights Inspector to enforce state weights and measures laws. You will travel across designated territories to test and verify the accuracy of large‑capacity scales used in agriculture and commerce.

Key responsibilities

• Inspect and test vehicle, livestock, hopper, warehouse and forklift scales for accuracy.
• Operate and maintain test equipment and a state‑owned scale test unit.
• Drive to inspection sites, often requiring overnight travel.
• Investigate consumer complaints related to weighing devices and prepare detailed documentation.
• Enforce Georgia weights and measures regulations and maintain state vehicle and equipment.

Required profile

• Residency in or willingness to relocate to Alma, Axson, Broxton, Hazlehurst, Jesup or Baxley.
• Valid Georgia driver’s license; CDL preferred (must obtain within six months if not held).
• Clean driving record and ability to work outdoors in varied weather.
• High school diploma or GED; 3‑5 years relevant experience.
• Physical ability to stand for long periods and walk intermittently.

Required skills

• Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) or ability to obtain one.
• Proficiency with Windows operating systems and basic computer applications.
• Basic mathematical skills for scale verification.
