Laborer I – Motorized Equipment Operator

About the role

Louisiana Bridge Builders is seeking a Laborer I – MOT to support the construction of the new I‑10 Calcasieu River Bridge and related highway projects in Lake Charles, LA. The role involves hands‑on physical work, traffic control, and operation of motorized equipment on a busy construction site.

Key responsibilities

• Set up, maintain and remove temporary work zones, including warning signs, traffic cones, stop‑slow paddles and rumble strips.
• Communicate with other flaggers via hand‑held radios and direct two‑way traffic onto a single lane using hand signals and signage.
• Position warning and detour signs, and direct traffic to ensure safety of workers, pedestrians and motorists.
• Load and unload materials, erect scaffolding, install braces, and clean up debris and waste.
• Operate motorized equipment such as skid steer, forklift, jackhammers, cement mixers and asphalt heaters.
• Dig trenches, compact earth, backfill holes and perform general site preparation.
• Maintain daily housekeeping by removing trash, drainage debris and tools to eliminate hazards.

Required profile

• Ability to understand work directions and communicate effectively with foremen, supervisors and co‑workers.
• Strong awareness of concurrent site activities, equipment movement and safety protocols.
• Positive, professional attitude and willingness to work as part of a team.

Required skills

• Operation of skid steer and forklift.
• Use of jackhammers, cement mixers and asphalt heaters.
• Experience with hand‑held radios for traffic coordination.
• Basic computer proficiency, including Microsoft Office Suite.
