About the role
The Laboratory Technician performs laboratory tests to determine chemical and physical characteristics of solid, liquid or gaseous materials for quality control, process control and product development in the oil and petroleum sector.
Key responsibilities
- Operate and maintain laboratory equipment such as microscopes, centrifuges, viscometers, spectrophotometers, gas chromatographs and colorimeters.
- Test raw materials and finished products for purity, stability, viscosity, density, melting point, flash point and presence of specific elements or contaminants.
- Record test results on standardized forms, prepare reports, graphs and charts.
- Prepare chemical solutions, calibrate instruments and ensure laboratory resources are adequate.
- Support ISO certification, corrective/preventive actions and work a rotating schedule including on‑call availability.
Required profile
- High school diploma or GED with 1‑3 years of related laboratory experience.
- Ability to read, analyze and interpret technical procedures, regulations and business documents.
- Strong numerical skills for calculations, rate, ratio and percentage analysis.
- Physical ability to stand, walk, lift up to 100 lb (with assistance) and work in environments with chemicals, fumes and moderate noise.
