Laboratory Technician I/II – Mechanical & Materials Testing

About the role

Zachry Common Labs at Texas A&M Engineering is hiring a full‑time Laboratory Technician (Level I or II) to support teaching and research activities. The role involves applying engineering and scientific techniques across mechanical testing, material science, fluid and mechanical processes, control systems, electronics, and electrical systems.

Key responsibilities

• Operate and maintain laboratory equipment for mechanical testing, material characterization, and fluid‑process experiments.
• Assist faculty, teaching assistants, and students with setup, troubleshooting, and data collection in a fast‑paced instructional environment.
• Support experiments involving pumps, blowers, heat exchangers, and control system hardware.
• Maintain accurate records of test procedures, results, and equipment maintenance.
• Contribute to safety compliance and laboratory best‑practice documentation.

Required profile

• High school diploma or equivalent; combination of education and experience accepted.
• Technician I: minimum two years of related laboratory experience.
• Technician II: minimum three years of related laboratory experience.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills to interact with individuals of varying technical backgrounds.
