Laboratory Assistant – Automated Manufacturing

About the role

The Georgia State Government is seeking a part‑time Laboratory Assistant to support its Automated Manufacturing lab. This position works under the Program Support Specialist and provides hands‑on assistance to faculty, staff, and students.

Key responsibilities

• Operate and troubleshoot electromechanical equipment using digital multimeters, oscilloscopes, and mechanical measurement tools.
• Maintain lab organization, inventory of tools and equipment, and perform routine preventive maintenance on office devices.
• Prepare oral and written reports, and handle basic administrative tasks for the computer lab.
• Assist students by offering encouragement, guidance, and training on lab procedures.
• Communicate schedule changes to appropriate staff and ensure a safe, supportive learning environment.

Required profile

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Willingness to learn and develop technical skills through provided training.
• Ability to lift 15‑30 lb and adapt to flexible work conditions.
• Strong communication and people skills for interacting with students and staff.

Required skills

• Use of digital multimeter and oscilloscope.
• Mechanical measurement tools such as micrometers and calipers.
• Familiarity with common hand tools (wrenches, screwdrivers, corded and cordless power tools).
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications: Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
• Willingness to learn software associated with automated mechatronics training equipment.
