Lab Manager

About the role

The Laboratory Manager will oversee the Clinical Research Unit (CRU) laboratory at Georgetown University Medical Center, ensuring regulatory compliance, high‑quality specimen handling, and support for clinical research activities. This position serves as the primary point of contact for all laboratory interactions and works closely with nursing staff and research coordinators.

Key responsibilities

• Manage daily operations of the CRU laboratory, including processing, storing, and shipping of specimens.
• Maintain tracking of all stored specimens and ensure proper function of laboratory equipment.
• Oversee inventory, ordering of supplies, and on‑call freezer alarm coverage for -80°C freezers.
• Serve as the main liaison between the laboratory and study teams, providing training and oversight to staff.
• Support community visits under the CTSA grant in collaboration with partner institutions.
• Assist nurses with clinical research tasks, vital signs, ECGs, phlebotomy, and subject transport when workload permits.
• Coordinate drug pick‑up and delivery between research and main pharmacy.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in a relevant scientific discipline.
• Experience managing a clinical or research laboratory.
• Familiarity with regulatory standards governing clinical specimen handling.
• Ability to train and supervise laboratory staff.
• Strong organizational and communication skills.
