Juvenile Detention Counselor (Levels 1-3) – Muscogee YDC, Columbus GA

About the role

The State of Georgia’s Department of Juvenile Justice is seeking dedicated Juvenile Detention Counselors (Levels 1‑3) to work at the Muscogee Youth Detention Center in Columbus, GA. Under supervision, you will plan, manage, and evaluate social service programs that support the rehabilitation and safety of detained youth.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct intake services and comprehensive assessments for youth entering the facility.
• Provide individual, group, and family counseling using cognitive‑behavioral and life‑skills approaches.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to develop, monitor, and adjust service plans.
• Prepare and submit required reports, progress reviews, and discharge recommendations for courts.
• Facilitate or co‑facilitate structured groups and participate in facility‑wide PBIS activities.
• Maintain confidentiality of case records and ensure compliance with policy and quality‑assurance processes.

Required profile

• High school diploma or equivalent; higher education in social work, psychology, or related field preferred.
• Experience working with at‑risk youth or in correctional settings is advantageous.
• Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
• Strong communication and documentation skills.
