Juvenile Correctional Sergeant – Macon RYDC

About the role

Join the Georgia Department of Juvenile Justice as a Juvenile Correctional Sergeant at the Macon Regional Youth Detention Center (RYDC). You will help create a safe, therapeutic, and educational environment for detained youth, modeling pro‑social behavior and supporting their rehabilitation.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain custody, security, and care of youth in accordance with department policies and SOPs.
• Provide direct support, guidance, and structure to promote safety, personal conduct, and rehabilitation.
• Complete administrative paperwork, maintain records, and prepare reports.
• Inspect, inventory, and control security equipment and technology.
• Supervise and intervene with youth to maintain order and discipline.
• Assist in training, selecting, and orienting subordinate correctional staff.
• Review youth information to identify special‑attention cases.
• Serve as Shift Supervisor in the Lieutenant’s absence.

Required profile

• High school diploma/GED.
• At least six months experience as a Juvenile Correctional Officer 3 (PSP222) or equivalent, or four years of military experience.
• Successful completion of Leadership Core Basic, Intermediate, and Advanced within the first six months of employment.
• Obtain and maintain State of Georgia P.O.S.T. certification within six months.
• Ability to meet physical agility standards required for safety and security duties.
