Juvenile Correctional Sergeant – Dalton, GA

About the role

The State of Georgia is seeking a Juvenile Correctional Sergeant to join the Elbert Shaw Regional Youth Detention Center in Dalton. In this position you will help create a safe, therapeutic, and educational environment for detained youth while supporting the mission of the Department of Juvenile Justice.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain custody, security, and care of youth in accordance with department policies and SOPs.
• Provide direct support, guidance, and structure to promote safety, personal conduct, and rehabilitation.
• Complete administrative paperwork, records, and reports accurately and timely.
• Inspect, inventory, and control security equipment and technology.
• Supervise and intervene with youth to maintain order and discipline.
• Assist in training, selecting, and orienting subordinate correctional staff.
• Review youth information to identify special‑attention cases.
• Act as Shift Supervisor in the Lieutenant’s absence.

Required profile

• High school diploma or GED.
• At least six months experience as a Juvenile Correctional Officer 3 (PSP222) or equivalent.
• Successful completion of Leadership Core Basic, Intermediate, and Advanced within six months, or four years of military experience.
• Obtain and maintain State of Georgia P.O.S.T. certification within six months of hire.
