Juvenile Correctional Sergeant – Augusta YDC, GA

About the role

The State of Georgia seeks a Juvenile Correctional Sergeant to join the Augusta Youth Development Center (YDC). In this position you will help create a safe, therapeutic, and educational environment for detained youth while supporting their rehabilitation.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain custody, security, and care of youth in accordance with Department of Juvenile Justice policies.
• Provide direct support, guidance, and structure to promote pro‑social behavior.
• Complete administrative paperwork, records, and reports accurately.
• Inspect, inventory, and control security equipment and technology.
• Supervise and train subordinate correctional staff; act as shift supervisor when needed.
• Read youth information to identify special‑attention cases and intervene to maintain order.

Required profile

• High school diploma or GED.
• Current, valid Georgia P.O.S.T. certification.
• At least 6 months experience as a Juvenile Correctional Officer 2 (PSP221).
• Successful completion of Leadership Core Basic Levels 1‑3.
• Valid driver’s license.
