About the role

Join the Georgia Department of Juvenile Justice as a Juvenile Correctional Officer and help create a safe, therapeutic, and educational environment for detained youth. You will directly support, guide, and model pro‑social behavior to promote rehabilitation and personal growth.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain custody, security, and care of youth in accordance with department policies and standard operating procedures.
• Conduct contraband searches, security counts, and supervise youth in housing units, classrooms, and other facility areas.
• Intervene with youth through active supervision to control inappropriate behavior and ensure a safe environment.
• Manage movement and transitions of youth within and between facilities, including temporary leaves.
• Promote adaptive behavior using positive reinforcement, redirection, verbal coaching, and role‑modeling.
• Screen visitors and staff to prevent unauthorized access and contraband.
• Utilize security equipment and technology to support safety and well‑being of youth.

Required profile

• High school diploma or GED.
• Must obtain Georgia POST certification within six months of hire.
• Valid Georgia driver’s license.
• Ability to meet agency requirements and uphold professional standards.
