Juvenile Correctional Lieutenant – Claxton RYDC

About the role

The Georgia Department of Juvenile Justice seeks a Juvenile Correctional Lieutenant to work at the Claxton Regional Youth Detention Center (RYDC). The position focuses on providing a safe, therapeutic, and educational environment for youth while supervising staff and maintaining facility security.

Key responsibilities

• Ensure safety and custody of youth by following department policies and SOPs.
• Manage behavioral issues through active supervision and appropriate interventions.
• Supervise, train, and schedule subordinate staff, including new hires.
• Complete administrative duties such as paperwork, record‑keeping, and development of security procedures.
• Oversee contraband searches, inspections, and control of logs, keys, tools, and weapons.
• Enforce facility rules and identify youth requiring special attention.

Required profile

• High school diploma or GED.
• At least one year of experience as a Juvenile Correctional Officer Sergeant (PSP223) or equivalent, or two years of military service at rank E‑5 or higher.
• Obtain and maintain State of Georgia P.O.S.T. certification within six months of hire.
