Juvenile Correctional Lieutenant (Claxton RYDC)

About the role

The Georgia Department of Juvenile Justice seeks a dedicated Juvenile Correctional Lieutenant to work at the Claxton Regional Youth Detention Center (RYDC). The role focuses on creating a safe, therapeutic, and educational environment for youth while supervising staff and ensuring compliance with department policies.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain custody and care of youth in accordance with department policies and SOPs.
• Intervene in inappropriate behavior and provide active supervision to manage conduct.
• Plan, train, and supervise assigned staff, including orientation of new team members.
• Complete administrative paperwork, maintain records, and develop security procedures.
• Oversee contraband searches, inspections, and control of logs, keys, tools, and weapons.
• Enforce facility rules and identify youth requiring special attention.

Required profile

• High school diploma or GED.
• One year of experience as a Juvenile Correctional Officer Sergeant (PSP223) or equivalent, OR two years of military service at rank E‑5 or higher.
• Must obtain and maintain State of Georgia POST certification within six months of hire.
