Junior CNC Machinist

About the role

CACI is seeking a Junior CNC Machinist with at least 1 to 3 years of experience. The position is covered by the Service Contract Act, is full time and requires a Secret clearance. It involves setting up and operating CNC vertical machining centers in a prototype development shop.

Key responsibilities

• Determine and perform the setup of CNC vertical machining centers for programs provided by CAM programmers
• Design and build fixtures (preferred)
• Select cutters and tool holders
• Set up and operate the full range of machine tools in a well-equipped prototype development shop
• Maintain dimensional accuracy to tight tolerances (less than +/- 0.001 inch) using measuring instruments such as micrometers, gage blocks, dial indicators and surface gages
• Work independently with minimal supervision, from verbal instructions and sketches
• Perform machine shop math and trigonometry
• Lift and maneuver objects up to 80 pounds and follow safety protocols

Required profile

• Successful completion of a machinist apprenticeship
• Journeyman CNC Machinist qualification
• Trade school certificate
• High school diploma or equivalent
• DoD Secret clearance or ability to obtain it
• Knowledge of shop, facility and division safety policies

Required skills

• G and M codes, with ability to program at the control and edit CAM-generated programs
• Reading blueprints and mechanical drawings
• Mil-Spec and GD&T specifications
• CAM and solid modeling CAD experience is a plus
• Forklift operation is a plus
