Java Developer / Data Engineer – Compliance Surveillance

About the role

The Java Developer / Data Engineer will join TD’s Compliance, Surveillance & Supervision Product Technology team in New York, designing and implementing tools that support regulatory and compliance monitoring across capital markets.

Key responsibilities

• Design, build and integrate data pipelines and analytics engines for surveillance platforms.
• Connect upstream banking systems with core surveillance solutions such as NICE Actimize and Trading Hub.
• Develop scalable, maintainable distributed systems using Java and Python.
• Work with batch and near‑real‑time data processing using big‑data frameworks.

Required profile

• Minimum 3 years of experience in Java development and data engineering.
• Familiarity with capital markets asset classes and compliance concepts (AML, trade and payments surveillance).
• Strong understanding of data storage, ETL, and modern data‑engineering patterns.
• Experience integrating enterprise systems with vendor applications and messaging platforms.

Required skills

• Core Java (strong), Python (exposure).
• Apache Spark, Hadoop, Databricks.
• Cloud data lakes and relational databases.
• Messaging systems such as Kafka and Solace.
• ETL processes and big‑data processing frameworks.
