ISOU Flight Registered Nurse (O-5 Billet) Non-Supervisory

About the role

The ISOU Flight Registered Nurse serves as a Medical Aircrew Member, delivering in‑flight, ground, and sea medical care during ICE and DHS operations. The position requires advanced nursing expertise, the ability to work in austere environments, and frequent travel with rapid deployment readiness.

Key responsibilities

• Operate as a flight nurse and program manager, providing direct patient care for individuals in ICE custody, IHSC clinics, and DHS missions.
• Serve as a Medical Aircrew Member and First Responder on small aircraft, business jets, large airliners, helicopters, ground vehicles, and sea vessels.
• Assist with patient care aboard cutters, small boats, and aircraft during Alien Migrant Interdiction Operations (AMIO).
• Represent U.S. government health services at sea and maintain contact with high‑level diplomatic and inter‑agency personnel.
• Travel up to 50% or more, perform short‑ and long‑term deployments with short notice.
• Provide 24/7 on‑call medical consultation and develop comprehensive care plans for patients with complex needs.
• Manage ISOU program objectives, act as a subject‑matter expert, and advise officials on policy and program implementation.

Required profile

• Advanced nursing expertise with ability to perform duties above the clinical nurse intermediate level.
• Adaptability to work in remote, austere, and inclement conditions.
• Readiness for rapid domestic and global deployment.
• Eligibility as a USPHS officer or Call to Active Duty (CAD) candidate.
• Ability to travel extensively and be on call as needed.
