Intermediate Architectural Designer – Residential

About the role

Roman and Williams Buildings and Interiors is seeking an Intermediate Architectural Designer to join its Residential team in New York. The role involves contributing to all phases of design and construction for residential projects, from concept through hand‑over.

Key responsibilities

• Coordinate and develop projects from concept design through construction administration, installation and handover.
• Assist and guide project teams across all phases, managing multiple projects simultaneously.
• Produce construction‑documentation drawings and detailed design detailing.
• Manage vendors and coordinate with consultants including MEP, structural, lighting and landscape designers.
• Prepare and present design concepts, presentation materials and drawing sets to internal and external audiences.
• Maintain project directories, schedules, drawing logs and respond to RFIs.
• Review work of junior/intermediate designers before senior review.

Required profile

• 4‑6 years of professional architectural experience, preferably residential.
• Highly self‑motivated with strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to thrive in a fast‑paced environment and handle multiple projects concurrently.
• Client‑facing confidence and collaborative mindset.

Required skills

• Construction documentation‑level drawing and design detailing.
• Strong knowledge of building systems and fundamentals of construction and assembly.
• Vendor management and coordination with MEP, structural, lighting and landscape consultants.
• Proficiency with traditional architectural vocabulary.
