Intermediate Architect / Job Captain

About the role

Heitler Houstoun Architects is seeking an Intermediate Architect / Job Captain to advance projects from design development through construction. The role blends design‑driven thinking with strong technical execution in a collaborative Manhattan studio.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the creation and organization of construction document sets, ensuring they translate design intent into buildable drawings.
• Coordinate sub‑consultants, integrate their work, and maintain consistency with office standards.
• Apply knowledge of building systems, materials, detailing, and code requirements to produce high‑quality documentation.
• Support small project teams (2‑3 members) by managing schedules, deadlines, and interdisciplinary coordination.

Required profile

• 3‑5 years of post‑graduate architectural experience (B.Arch or M.Arch).
• Licensed architect or actively pursuing licensure.
• Based in the New York City area or able to relocate soon.
• Detail‑oriented, technically rigorous, and comfortable managing portions of a project with increasing independence.

Required skills

• Proficiency in AutoCAD and Revit.
• Working knowledge of SketchUp, Rhino, and V‑Ray (preferred).
• Familiarity with Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop).
• Understanding of building codes, regulatory requirements, and construction detailing.
