Instructor‑Trainer for Language Partners Program

About the role

EJP Language Partners Program is seeking instructor‑trainers to support peer instructors at Danville Correctional Center. The unpaid position involves guiding and designing English language instruction for incarcerated Latinx learners, fostering empowerment and cultural exchange.

Key responsibilities

• Attend Language Partners sessions at the prison seven times per semester (approximately twice per month).
• Participate in planning meetings on campus or at the correctional center.
• Manage communications: read and reply to emails, write session summaries, and stay updated on EJP news.
• Take part in at least one EJP‑wide activity per academic year, such as a Critical Conversation.
• Prepare or gather teaching resources as needed.
• Contribute to an inclusive community culture among instructors and learners.

Required profile

• Seriousness of purpose, flexibility, and maturity.
• Background that aligns with the student population (racial minority, first‑generation degree holder, low socioeconomic status).
• Eligibility for clearance: not formerly incarcerated in Illinois and not actively visiting an IDOC inmate.
