Initial Resettlement Caseworker

About the role

The International Rescue Committee is seeking an Initial Resettlement Caseworker to provide trauma-informed support to refugees and eligible immigrants arriving in Texas. The role focuses on coordinating essential services that enable clients to achieve self-sufficiency and integrate successfully into their new community.

Key responsibilities

• Arrange pre-arrival and post-arrival services, including airport pick-up, temporary and permanent housing, food, medical care, and transportation.
• Conduct intake interviews, assess needs, and develop individualized self-sufficiency plans with SMART goals.
• Distribute direct financial assistance, assist with public benefits applications, and refer clients to medical, mental-health, and vocational services.
• Monitor client progress, address barriers, and ensure resources are utilized according to program requirements.
• Document all client interactions in the ETO system and support tracking and reporting activities.
• Collaborate with internal teams and external service providers, building partnerships that benefit clients.
• Use personal or public transportation to travel within the service area for client visits and material delivery.
• Potentially train and supervise volunteers and interns in service delivery activities.

Required profile

• Demonstrated commitment to humanitarian principles and the ability to work with trauma-affected populations.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills for client interaction and partnership building.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
• Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation for field work.
• Flexibility to travel within the assigned service area as needed.
