Infrastructure Operations Center Systems Administrator

About the role

The Infrastructure Operations Center Systems Administrator joins the Enterprise Operations Team to ensure continuous availability of compute and storage resources for Oak Ridge National Laboratory. The role operates on a rotating shift schedule to provide 24/7/365 monitoring and support for critical laboratory systems.

Key responsibilities

• Document team processes, work instructions, and maintain a living knowledge base.
• Monitor infrastructure equipment and servers for uptime and performance.
• Assist with backup administration, restore requests, and enterprise server patching.
• Manage server vulnerability remediation and virtualized environment tuning.
• Utilize a Data Center Infrastructure Management (DCIM) system to track assets and connections.
• Collaborate with system engineers and vendors to troubleshoot hardware and software issues.
• Provide off‑hours support, escalation, and automation/self‑healing solutions.

Required profile

• Associate degree in IT or related field (or equivalent experience).
• Minimum five years of experience in systems administration.
• Ability to work rotating shifts and respond to off‑hours incidents.
• Strong communication skills for documentation and cross‑team collaboration.

Required skills

• PowerShell and other scripting tools.
• Backup architecture and enterprise backup solutions.
• Microsoft SCCM and server patching processes.
• Virtualization platforms (VM clusters, tuning, maintenance).
• Windows Server and Linux Server administration.
• Basic network communication troubleshooting.
• Experience with DCIM systems and asset management.
• Automation and self‑healing workflow development.
