Information Technology Specialist

About the role

The Kenner Fire Department seeks a dedicated Information Technology Specialist to maintain, program, secure, and repair its computer and network systems. Working under the Fire Chief, the specialist will ensure reliable IT services for fire department operations and support users with technical issues.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain and troubleshoot the department’s computer hardware, networking equipment, and telephone switches.
• Administer the local network, including servers, voice, data, and video communications.
• Monitor network availability, perform backups, and resolve data communication problems.
• Manage user access to internet, email, and other departmental applications.
• Implement security measures, assign passwords, and enforce IT policies.
• Respond to system incidents, record problems, and provide corrective actions.
• Design, implement, and maintain a computerized records management system and develop related policies.
• Evaluate system capacity and recommend enhancements.

Required profile

• Non‑supervisory professional working with moderate supervision from the Fire Chief.
• Strong sense of responsibility and ability to handle emergency IT issues.
• Experience in public‑sector or safety‑critical environments is advantageous.
