Information Security Risk Specialist (Mid Level)

About the role

As an Information Security Risk Specialist you will partner with Department of War leaders to identify cyber risks, translate complex threat data into actionable mitigation plans, and support the protection of mission‑critical networks. You will act as a subject‑matter expert, producing presentations, white papers and milestones that guide senior decision‑makers.

Key responsibilities

• Assess the full threat landscape by reviewing technical and personnel inputs from subject‑matter experts.
• Develop and communicate risk mitigation strategies through presentations, white papers and implementation road‑maps.
• Collaborate with project and proposal teams to embed cybersecurity solutions into broader initiatives.
• Author technical documentation, whitepapers and blogs on leading cybersecurity topics.
• Assist in the creation or refinement of cybersecurity policies and governance frameworks.

Required profile

• 2+ years of experience in IT operations or cybersecurity.
• Background in cybersecurity compliance, audits or inspections.
• Proven ability to work with senior leaders (CISO, CIO, CTO) and guide risk‑based decisions.
• Top Secret clearance (or ability to obtain).
• HS diploma or GED; relevant security certifications (e.g., CEH, CISM, CISSP, CompTIA Security+).

Required skills

• NIST SP 800‑53 framework.
• DoD 8500/8510 security standards.
• Cloud platforms: AWS, Azure, Google Cloud Platform.
• Enterprise Mission Assurance Support Service (eMASS).
• AI/ML concepts, Next‑Generation Firewall (NGFW) and Big Data security tools.
