Industrial Health & Safety Manager

About the role

Gerdau, a steel producer with mills making steel beams, flat-rolled steel, merchant bar, rebar, spikes and wire, is hiring an Industrial Health & Safety Manager in Cartersville, Georgia. The manager provides professional safety and health leadership to all division employees at the site, giving direction on safety and loss prevention programs and ensuring compliance with federal, state, local and corporate safety guidelines. The role reports directly to the Vice President and General Manager of the Mill, with functional reporting to the Director of Safety and Health.

Key responsibilities

• Assess current loss prevention and control efforts and recommend improvements to management.
• Provide direction on implementing and maintaining health and safety programs.
• Help management build a management accountability system for preventing and controlling losses, defining roles across the organization.
• Maintain a communication system for safety and health issues throughout the organization.
• Evaluate risks and set guidelines for roles, training, measurements and rewards covering employee safety, industrial hygiene, property protection, workers' compensation claims, OSHA compliance, contractors and job safety analysis.
• Take part in accident prevention through inspections, observations and incident investigations.
• Advise management and liaise with OSHA inspections and correspondence.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in safety, industrial hygiene, engineering or another technical discipline with 5-7 years of safety management experience (manufacturing preferred), or a Master's degree with 3-5 years of safety management experience (manufacturing preferred).
• 3-5 years of facilitation experience in problem solving, communication and quality improvement preferred.
• Excellent communication skills.
• Associate Safety Professional (ASP) or Certified Safety Professional (CSP) preferred.
• Must be legally eligible to work in the United States without current or future sponsorship.

Required skills

• Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Professional applications.
