In Vitro Neuroscientist

About the role

The Astera Institute is looking for an experienced experimental neuroscientist to lead in‑vitro brain‑slice projects. You will investigate complex neuronal networks using electrophysiology, optical imaging, and bio‑engineering methods.

Key responsibilities

• Design and execute experiments with in‑vitro brain slice preparations.
• Characterize neuronal network activity and circuit dynamics.
• Perform and optimize patch‑clamp and multielectrode array recordings.
• Implement calcium and voltage imaging to monitor neuronal function.
• Contribute to experimental strategy, technology development, publications, and scientific direction.
• Maintain rigorous documentation and data standards.

Required profile

• PhD in Neuroscience, Neurobiology, Biomedical Engineering, Physiology, or a related field.
• Proven hands‑on research track record in experimental neuroscience.
• Experience culturing and maintaining neuronal systems in vitro.

• Patch clamp electrophysiology
• Multielectrode array (MEA) systems
• Calcium and voltage imaging
• Human stem‑cell‑derived neural cultures or organoids
• Neural signal analysis and quantitative neuroscience
• Data analysis using Python or MATLAB
