Human Services Specialist - Crime Prevention

About the role

The City of Fort Worth offers a Human Services Specialist position within the Fort Worth Police Department's Crime Prevention Unit. You will work independently and alongside police personnel to engage the community, build relationships and educate citizens about crime prevention and safety. The position also produces child ID cards and fingerprints, and requires driving a City vehicle to community events and meetings. Pay is $22.90-$28.62 per hour ($47,632-$59,539 annually); hours are primarily Monday to Friday, 8 a.m.-5 p.m., with occasional evening and weekend work.

Key responsibilities

• Coordinate and organize the Annual Central Division Safety Fair and National Night Out events
• Develop and deliver crime and safety presentations to citizens and community groups
• Create and distribute a monthly newsletter to division staff and community stakeholders
• Maintain an inventory of crime prevention materials for distribution at events
• Work with Neighborhood Patrol Officers at events to promote a safety partnership
• Identify opportunities for community engagement and crime-prevention education and coordinate activities independently

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Psychology, Sociology, Social Work or a related field
• Two years of experience in interviewing and eligibility assessment for a social services or related program
• Valid driver's license
• Must pass a CJIS fingerprint-based background check; disqualifying offenses include felony convictions, recent misdemeanor convictions, open arrests and family violence convictions
