Human Resources Generalist

About the role

The State of Georgia is seeking a proactive Human Resources Generalist to support its workforce of over 10 million citizens. Reporting to the Executive Director for Human Resources, you will help drive recruitment, benefits administration, payroll support, and employee relations while ensuring compliance with state policies.

Key responsibilities

• Post recruitment announcements, manage candidate selection, and guide applicants through the interview process.
• Provide benefits information to new hires and existing staff, and coordinate flexible benefits enrollment.
• Conduct new‑hire orientation for hourly and salaried employees and maintain personnel files.
• Process background checks, drug tests, medical screenings, and retiree pre‑employment verifications.
• Collect, verify, and record leave in accordance with state and federal guidelines; perform leave audits as needed.
• Scan, index, and archive HR reports; manage payroll coding, project codes, and position numbers.
• Serve as backup for preparing separation notices and assist with disciplinary actions while maintaining confidentiality.
• Complete required training, generate reports, and coordinate HR programs and campaigns.

• Experience working under supervision of senior HR leadership.
