Housing Assistant – Bilingual Spanish

About the role

The New York City Housing Authority is seeking a bilingual Housing Assistant who will support applicants and tenants in the public housing program. The role requires fluency in Spanish and the ability to conduct interviews, verify documentation, and manage case files using a range of electronic systems.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct applicant interviews using the Siebel‑Smart Script system and department interview booklets.
• Gather, copy, and request documentation to verify family composition, residence, rent history, income, citizenship, and eligibility criteria.
• Access and search property records via ACRIS and verify income through the New York State Welfare Management System (WMS).
• Validate immigration status using the DHS SAVE program and tenancy history through HUD’s EIV system.
• Perform landlord contacts, review questionnaires, and process landlord or shelter information.
• Submit criminal background checks to the Office of Court Administration (OCA) and evaluate results.
• Scan and file all documents electronically, maintaining accurate case files.

Required profile

• Fluent in Spanish with successful completion of an oral proficiency test.
• Experience working with limited‑English speakers and public housing processes.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to follow standardized interview procedures.
• Eligibility for NYCHA internal transfer or promotional pathways (if applicable).
