Hospital Central Utility Plant Operator

About the role

The Hospital Central Utility Plant Operator ensures safe, efficient, and continuous operation of the hospital’s central utility systems, including boilers, chillers, HVAC, and emergency power equipment. This role supports uninterrupted patient care and hospital operations while complying with local, state, and federal regulations.

Key responsibilities

• Operate, monitor, and maintain low‑pressure boilers, chillers, refrigeration units, HVAC equipment, pumps, compressors, and cooling towers.
• Perform routine inspections, testing, and adjustments to optimize plant performance and energy efficiency.
• Respond promptly to alarms, equipment malfunctions, and emergency situations to prevent service interruptions.
• Maintain accurate logs, records, and reports of operations, maintenance activities, and regulatory inspections.
• Coordinate repairs, shutdowns, and upgrades with maintenance staff, contractors, and supervisors.
• Monitor building automation systems (BAS) and computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS).
• Support emergency power generation, including generators and UPS systems.
• Follow infection control, safety, and hospital operational procedures.

Required profile

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• 3–5 years of experience operating central utility plant equipment in a hospital, healthcare, or large industrial/institutional setting.
• Knowledge of local, state, and federal codes, OSHA regulations, and hospital safety standards.
