HLS GN&C Flight Simulation Engineer

About the role

Amentum, NASA's largest engineering solutions provider, is looking for a Human Landing System (HLS) Flight Control Simulation Engineer to work with NASA and JETS engineers on a 6-DOF Guidance, Navigation and Control (GN&C) simulation for the NASA HLS Program. The work focuses on developing flight control system algorithms for automated and piloted manual flight of lunar lander vehicles, supporting a crewed digital manual control system, display and control prototyping, and human-in-the-loop handling qualities assessment.

Key responsibilities

• Develop math models and simulations of guidance and flight control algorithms for automatic and piloted manual flight of lunar landers
• Produce formal math model and simulation documentation
• Identify simulation tasks, resolve simulation issues and assist team members
• Interact directly with NASA customers and support contractors during technical meetings and working groups
• Perform other duties as required

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering with experience in the field or a related area
• Experience developing flight control systems for aerospace vehicles
• Ability to organize and prioritize tasks to meet deadlines with limited supervision
• Excellent communication and documentation skills and ability to work in a team of NASA civil servants and contractors
• Must complete a U.S. government background investigation

Required skills

• Experience developing, verifying and validating GN&C math models and 6-DOF simulations
• Linux, C/C++ and Python
• Frequency-domain modeling and analysis of dynamic systems
• System identification and building linear models from time-domain measurements
• Preferred: MS in Aerospace Engineering, flight dynamics or orbital mechanics background, knowledge of GN&C principles, navigation algorithm design, GIT configuration control
